If you regularly check out the MGRC Facebook page and the MGRC website, you’ve undoubtly noticed pictures of the girls wearing colorful dresses. Recently, a photograph of Susan from MGRC was featured on a Facebook post wearing a beautiful dress with an embroidered pocket.
The dress was made by Mary, one of the ladies who sews with Threads of Hope. Threads of Hope is the sewing ministry of Scottsdale Bible Church.
In January 2018, Nancy, one of the Threads of Hope leaders, met with Jennifer and Terri, two of the other leaders, and over lunch, she shared about MGRC and the two girls she and her husband were sponsoring. We decided to include the MGRC girls in their sewing projects and for the past two years, over 100 dresses have been custom sewn for the girls and delivered free of charge. As a result of Nancy’s sharing about MGRC, not only was the door opened for dresses, but four other girls were sponsored!
At least once a year, the matrons take each girl’s measurements and Rick emails the information to Threads of Hope. Once the new measurements are received, a page is made for each girl with her first name, color photo, and measurements. The pages are arranged on a table at one of Threads of Hope’s monthly meetings and the ladies select the girl or girls for whom they will sew new dresses.
The due dates for the dresses and packing is coordinated by the Threads of Hope Leaders: Jennifer, Judy, Nancy, and Terri. Usually, the dresses are packed and ready to go so Rick can take them back to Tanzania when he is here visiting in the States. Scottsdale Bible Church has also delivered dresses over when one of their mission teams traveled to Tanzania for other projects.
Threads of Hope is about to start on the next order of dresses… the third year in a row! The plan is for these dresses to be delivered near the end of May.
