2018 has been a year of tremendous growth for MGRC, and a lot of great things are happening. My goal for this project is to offer Maasai girls and the Maasai village a path to break a debilitating cycle of child-mortality, extreme poverty, FGM, and abuses of child-marriage. Your support creates opportunity for us to provide a safe and nurturing environment for these girls to receive education, medical care, and the life skills that radically alter the course of their lives and the future culture of their tribe.
Here is a recap of what we’ve accomplished together in 2018.
- 24 rescued girls, 13 sponsors. MGRC was started with only 2 girls, and has grown to 24! I now have a staff of 5 locals who are their surrogate mothers while at our center. 11 of these girls still need sponsors, I’ve taken them in on the hope and prayer that I’ll find sponsors for them in 2019. I constantly am being asked to take more girls, and the hardest part of this job is turning people down.
- Education. The girls at our center attend a private Christian school. Education is a priority for us, and we’ve found that this school is best able to support our girls who have never had the opportunity to attend school prior to arriving at our center.
- Sustainable sources of healthy food: Milk, vegetables, and meat. We’ve raised and bought dairy cows that are now producing milk for our girls daily. We’ve started our own organic vegetable garden (a difficult task here due to availability of water), and we’ve raised money to purchase a freezer to safely preserve our food. In our current fund raiser, we have received donations to purchase 63 goats. If we get donations to purchase 37 more, we will have a herd size large to sustain the girls.
MGRC operates only by charitable donations. With your help and support allows us to continue our mission. To the many people who have generously given this year, THANK YOU! If you would still like to, it’s not too late to make a year-end tax-deductible donation! I am counting on you and our supporters so we can continue our challenging journey in 2019.
