In the heart of Maasai land, where challenges are as vast as the plains, MGRC stands as a beacon of hope for at-risk girls. Faced with the threat of child marriage, female genital mutilation (FGM), and limited educational opportunities, these young women often find their futures uncertain. MGRC provides a safe haven, offering education, counseling, and vocational training to empower them to break free from these harmful traditions and build brighter futures. With deliberate and measurable actions, we empower Maasai girls with the necessary resources to become confident, financially secure, and self-sufficient women.

Each of our girls have a unique background and her own set of gifts and challenges. From new residents to recent graduates, we delight in and celebrate the many milestones of their lives.

Meet our new residents

Our Maasai family has grown to 72 strong! We’ve recently welcomed five new residents, bringing even more energy and spirit to our bustling community.

Nosim’s Story:
Nosim, a fragile newborn rescued from a life of hardship, arrived at MGRC near death. Thanks to the dedicated care of our staff, she defied the odds and is now a thriving two-year-old. The Twins: Honest and Happiness: These adorable twins were rescued from a dangerous situation where their basic needs were not being met. At MGRC, they are now safe, loved, and receiving the care they deserve. Their bright smiles and infectious laughter fill our hearts with joy.

Neyesu’s Journey: Neyesu, a six-year-old girl, was brought to MGRC after her grandparents were unable to provide for her. At our center, she is receiving the education and support she needs to reach her full potential.

Marry’s Hope: Marry, a 13-year-old girl, was living a difficult life in the Shinyanga Region. Her mother is mentally challenged, and her father’s passing left her without a caregiver. A compassionate family friend recognized her plight and brought her to MGRC, where she is now safe and receiving the support she needs.

Graduation celebration

Recently, we celebrated the remarkable achievements of Yeyolai and Nemoipo, two of our graduates from the Karatu Modern Vocational Training Center. These young women have overcome significant challenges to earn their Basic Certificates in Hotel Management. Their graduation ceremony was a joyous occasion filled with pride and hope.

Yeyolai and Nemoipo expressed their deep gratitude to MGRC for the opportunities they have been given. They shared their dreams of becoming successful women and encouraged their younger peers to work hard and follow their passions.

Their path to employment

Unlike in Western countries, securing permanent employment in Tanzania often requires several years of experience. Graduates typically start with unpaid internships, which provide valuable hands-on experience and opportunities for networking. While these internships may not offer immediate financial rewards, they can be crucial for building a strong resume and increasing job prospects.

Yeyolai and Nemoipo will likely need to participate in multiple internships before landing permanent positions. However, their dedication and skills make them excellent candidates for these opportunities. We are thrilled to announce that Yeyolai has secured her first internship in Karatu, a promising step towards her future career goals.
