As the seasons shift to spring here in Tanzania, so too do the rhythms of life at Maasai Girls Rescue Center. We are currently transitioning into the rainy season, which typically begins in mid-March and continues through May. With this change comes Easter break for our girls, a time of renewal, reflection, and personal growth.
Spring break and Easter plans
From April 11th to April 22nd, the girls will be on their Easter break from school. To ensure they remain engaged and continue developing valuable skills, we have planned a variety of enriching spring activities. They will take part in gardening, baking, cooking in the kitchen, participating in church activities, and spending quality time with their social workers, teachers, and house mothers. These activities not only provide practical skills but also strengthen their sense of community and belonging.

ecoLodge update
Construction at the Maasai ecoLodge continues to move forward, with teams now focused on finishing the interiors of the units. We are targeting a fourth-quarter opening and are actively engaging with travel companies to introduce them to the ecoLodge, encouraging them to visit and recommend it to their clients. The Maasai Culture Center (MCC) plays a crucial role in drawing visitors, offering an authentic cultural experience that sets us apart. Additionally, we are partnering with the Fair Tourism Foundation to help spread awareness of our mission and unique accommodations.

A powerful visit: Overcoming adversity
Recently, we had an unexpected yet deeply moving visit from a local Maasai man who is blind. In Maasai culture, disabilities are often met with rejection, making his story all the more remarkable. He defied the odds, pursued an education, and attended college to become a teacher. Today, he works with Ngorongoro Legal Aid as a coordinator for people with disabilities, advocating for inclusion and empowerment.
During his visit, he spoke with the girls for over an hour about overcoming challenges and staying focused on their future. He encouraged them to share their own struggles—something that can be difficult for many of them. Yet, in his presence, they opened up, expressing their fears and aspirations. His words left a profound impact, reminding them that determination, faith, and resilience can change the course of their lives.

Celebrating women’s strength and resilience
In celebration of International Women’s Day, we were honored to be featured in a powerful video produced by Papricut. This project showcases the transformative work happening at MGRC, highlighting how we empower Maasai girls through education, vocational training, and sustainability initiatives. You can watch the video here.
As we move forward into this season of growth, we remain grateful for the continued support of our MGRC family. Whether through cultural engagement, educational opportunities, or inspiring mentorship, every step we take together brings our girls closer to a brighter future.
