We’re excited to announce a special addition to our community: a talented Maasai bead maker and cultural language teacher! Affectionately known as “Coco,” or grandmother, will play an important role in our newly established Maasai Cultural Center, a significant addition to our ecoLodge. This exciting project is designed to provide visitors with an immersive cultural experience, while also empowering our young Maasai women and preserving tradition.

A bridge to the past

Coco will share the beauty of Maasai culture with our girls. She’ll teach them the Maasai language, “Ma,” and guide them in traditional crafts like bead making. These skills aren’t just fun; they’re a powerful way to connect with their heritage, and open doors to future opportunities.

Sharing Maasai culture with the world

Beyond our community, Coco will be a key figure in our cultural events for international tourists visiting our ecoLodge. With her deep understanding of Maasai traditions and her passion for sharing them, Coco will provide visitors with an authentic and immersive cultural experience. Her demonstrations and stories will offer a genuine glimpse into Maasai life, traditions, and the spirit of the Maasai people.

Why it matters

By sharing Maasai culture with the world, we not only honor the girls’ heritage but also empower the next generation of Maasai girls to make changes. There are real problems for girls in Maasai communities such as forced marriage, FGM and extreme poverty. But there are beautiful and important aspects of our girls’ heritage that we don’t want them to lose touch with. Preserving these traditions fosters a strong sense of identity, opens doors to education and economic opportunities, and pays tribute to their ancestors. Supporting initiatives like these celebrates cultural diversity and helps shape a brighter future for the Maasai people.

Her passion, knowledge, and dedication will leave a lasting impact on our community and beyond. Stay tuned for updates on upcoming cultural events and opportunities to engage with our community.
