Contribute to a girl’s education & help change her life. Due to the extreme poverty of the Maasai tribe in Tanzania, girls are often bartered for a dowry of cattle in an arranged marriage as young as 8 years old. Education is not a priority for girls because it does not make them more “valuable” as brides. Instead of going to school, most girls are are subjected to genital mutilation and other abuses to increase their perceived worth. At the Maasai Girls Rescue Center, we are working to alter this cycle of poverty by providing girls a safe and nurturing new home with access to education. When girls are able to attend secondary and post-secondary schools, they become agents of change for their family and community.
- We currently have 17 girls living at our center, and we hope to raise enough money for school supplies necessary to give them the best chance at success.
