Soccer Success and Community Engagement

MGRC recently hosted two exciting soccer matches, where our girls competed against local children’s centers. The girls had a blast participating in the games, thanks to the coaching of our dedicated employees, Ernest and Diana. Beyond soccer, they also enjoy other sports like netball and volleyball. The social benefits extend beyond the field, the girls learn valuable lessons in teamwork, resilience, and decision-making. During one of the matches, Jael was spotted playing one of our homemade drums, adding a unique touch to the event.

Health and Wellness

Our girls recently received essential medical care from visiting doctors. The Tanzanian government mandates regular health check-ups for all children in children’s homes, and MGRC is committed to ensuring their well-being. These check-ups are crucial for monitoring the girls’ growth and development. While some girls (and staff) were more enthusiastic about the visits than others, it’s a crucial part of maintaining their health and their overall physical fitness

Preschool Progress and Language Learning

MGRC preschoolers are making significant strides in their development. Under the guidance of Diana, they’re learning to count numbers, sing songs, and colors. Our preschool curriculum is designed to provide a strong foundation for the girls’ education. Focusing on developing fundamental and transitional skills that will prepare them for success in primary school. The older girls also play a vital role in helping the younger ones learn English words and songs, preparing them for primary school.

Cultural Performance and Family Visits

The girls have been diligently practicing for a cultural performance that will be shared with visitors to our ecoLodge. The program features Maasai song and dance, traditional clothing, and a bead-making demonstration. Suzana and Esupat are particularly excited about showcasing their beadwork, along with the drums, spears, and shields they’ve recently learned to make.

To strengthen their connection to their families and culture, a group of MGRC girls recently traveled to Longido for a visit. We believe that these supervised visits are essential for their personal growth and development. Promoting a sense of balance between their life at MGRC and their cultural roots.

Farm Updates

Our eco farm continues to thrive! We’ve added new stalls to accommodate our growing pig population and have successfully learned important lessons about caring for newborn piglets. The farm provides valuable opportunities for the girls to develop a sense of responsibility, work ethic, and connection to the land.

Additionally, we’re excited to announce our first harvest of coffee. While it may be a smaller crop, it will play a crucial role in supporting our ecoLodge when it opens. The ecoLodge will not only generate income for MGRC but also provide valuable job training and employment opportunities for the girls as they grow older, preparing them for successful futures.
