Experience a barbecue, listen to the girls sing, talk with them about their daily lives. The cultural connections that are formed could change your life and theirs.
To make arrangements, please fill out our Visitor Request Form at least 1 week in advance of your planned visit. It’s best to schedule a time when the girls aren’t at school. Weekends are ideal.
If you would like to join us for a meal, there will be a small charge to cover the cost.
We look forward to meeting you!
Volunteer at MGRC ecoVillage
Are you a positive, adventurous individual who likes a challenge? Are you drawn to service-oriented work, with an opportunity to make an impact in a remote and underprivileged part of the world? Can you work closely with people of different ages, nationalities and backgrounds? Then volunteering at MGRC could be for you!
Volunteering at the MGRC ecoVillage in Karatu, Tanzania is a wonderful experience for both our volunteers and girls. Volunteers are crucial to our day-to-day operations as well as achieving our strategic goals. Volunteering involves hard work, going without many of the comforts and luxuries to which you might be accustomed, and throwing yourself into tasks and projects that may be new to you.
If you choose to volunteer at MGRC, then you are someone who loves children, thrives in group settings, likes to take initiative, and doesn’t mind getting dirty. We can have 2-4 volunteers at a time. Volunteers are assigned to various jobs based on their skills and interests, and our needs, and are expected to pitch in whenever the occasion warrants. Volunteers are adaptable and flexible, taking on new and challenging tasks, at times learning alongside the girls they are working with.
At the MGRC ecoVillage, our days begin early and do not end until our last child has been put to bed. On any given day the tasks you will be asked to perform will vary widely. You may be called upon to lend a hand on our farm, conduct a cooking or sewing class, teach a girl how to ride a bike, or help tutor or mentor a child.
While in Tanzania, many volunteers choose to visit our world famous national parks. MGRC can assist in scheduling game park visits, such as the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, or Mt. Kilimanjaro treks. We know many safari companies and will be happy to assist you in choosing a company that fits your budget.
Experience the Maasai culture first hand – MGRC can take you to visit a Maasai boma, giving you a unique view into their culture and upbringing.
